HDK PROJECT FINISHED!!!

Hello everybody,

first of all, again, I'd like to mention that I really appreciate your great support the past weeks! I know the break of After Forever was a surprise and disappointment for many of you, but the way you deal with that is simply amazing!

This has given me, and also the rest of the bandmembers, a lot of energy! It always sucks when you have to quit with something you put all your efforts in, but it helps a lot if people react respectful, and that's what you did! Like I mentioned, this is a possibility for all After Forever members to explore their individual talents, and already some really interesting projects have started!

Obviously, this is a blog about my HDK project, that I started already 3 years ago;-) Yesterday, Joost (van den Broek/keys After Forever) and I finally finished the mix of the album (in my own Eternia Studios), wich will be called SYSTEM OVERLOAD.

Mixing the album wasn't easy, since the songs have all kinds of vocals and styles, but the main goal was the make an agressive project with more dynamics than the hardcore thrash/death/heavy metal bands. Don't get me wrong, I love the common extreme metalstyles, but I thought it would be cool to give it a different approach. Due to the awesome singers and instrumentalists who have contributed, I can honestly say this has become the album I was hoping for with lots of brutal moments but still enough melody and emotion.

I'd especially like to thank Amanda Somerville, Peter Vink, Joost van den Broek and my friend John Holterman who constantly gave me advice and support in finishing HDK, without their help and of course the talents of the people I worked with, I'm sure it would have taken even longer:-) I'd also like to thank the people over here in myspace who always showed their interest in this, you rule!

Now it's time to definately find a label, create the album artwork and RELEASE these lullabies:-)

Next time, I'll give you the definite list of people who contributed and in which song, but I can already tell you that Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon/Star One) played an incredibly cool solo on one of the songs!!! That's not all though, more info about some other Dutch solomonsters later!

I think that the After Forever fans can also enjoy this record, it's certainly different but due to the collaboration with Amanda Somerville, who wrote the lyrics/lot of the vocallines AND the only female singer on the project, the vox play a very important role in the project! The topics of those lyrics are very important to me, and I'll be giving the songtitles and a describtion of what they're about soon!

We'll stay in touch, more news and soundclips soon, in the meantime: Keep the After Forever spirit alive!!!

According to Blabbermouth.net

HDK features contributions from the following musicians:

Amanda Somerville: Vocals
André Matos (ex-ANGRA, SHAAMAN, VIRGO): Vocals
Ariën van Weesenbeek (GOD DETHRONED): Drums
Joost van den Broek (SUN CAGED, AFTER FOREVER): Keyboards
Jos Severens (SUSTAIN): Vocals
Patrick Savelkoul (CALLENISH CIRCLE): Vocals
Paul Niessen (I WITNESS): Vocals
Peter Vink: Bass
Sander Gommans: Guitar, Vocals

Ariën van Weesenbeen has left God Dethroned and joined Epica as their new drummer!

I'm wondering if Mike Scheijen (37 Stabwoundz) has also contributed to the cd, because he was involved in the beginning..

Yep, Mike contributed, and he did a hell of a job, in one song he takes care of nearly all the vox, and I must say it's of the most intense ones!

Andre also did a great job, and sings in a more agression way then he normally does,
he will sing in two songs.

The users didn't abandon the board. This board did abandon the users.
I never was a frequent visitor/poster, simply because I don't have the time for it but the board as it is now makes it easier for me to stay away as well as for many others which don't show up here anymore.

Now your great project is almost finished  with exception of the artwork and the actual release a new board  might be a new challenge for you. :)

OFFTOPIC:
Hi Frantic, that's exactly the thing that I should definately NOT focuss on in this period, but I understand your opinion.
Hereby, I'd like to propose that you, together with other users, come up with a new board that would work for you, and then we'll check out together if we can use that one.
Deal?

Sander, I overlooked the fact that you sorta have to keep distance from After Forever on advice of the doctors. My appologies for that.

It could be a deal if I had the time for it and the knowledge about how to build a board.
I know how to use my computer but I am not a programmer.
The only thing I can do is telling what I like and what features I would like to be build in it but then we still have nothing except for a wishlist.

But now I am thinking of it, maybe you can make some kind of contest for this. :)
I am sure there are users up here who have the knowledge.

Well, people have posted their opinion very clearly, and I'm sure we could make something special, but I'm afraid someone else has to take the lead in that.
If you or anybody else would like to start making a new approach, feel free to do so but keep me upated!

Thanks for your help!

Hello there,

here is a first impression of Carl Begi, a metal journalist who has been following the project from the start.
Obvioulsy , I haven't started the real promotion yet since I first have to make a deal, but I sure wanted to share this with you all:

BW&BK Exclusive: HDK – “The Death Metal Thrash Addicted Bastard Son Of AFTER FOREVER”
Posted on Sunday, February 17, 2021 at 07:48:46 EST

BW&BK scribe Carl Begai recently received an exclusive listen to AFTER FOREVER guitarist Sander Gommans’ side project HDK’s debut album, System Overload. He has checked in with the following report.

“Having heard the rough HDK mixes during the summer of 2007 I thought I knew what was in store, but the final result goes well beyond all expectations. Considerably heavier than After Forever from the outset, HDK has mutated to become something absolutely monstrous and far more brutal than anything AF fans and naysayers can imagine Gommans putting to tape (or on file as the case may be). Call it the death metal thrash addicted bastard son of After Forever. Gommans has pulled out all the stops, gearing HDK in the direction of the track ‘Transitory’ from the last After Forever record, having removed the brakes in favour of high speed assault peppered heavily with neckwrecking grooves. He also has a lot more space for guitar riffery and uses it to maximun effect, throwing in numerous solos (played by himself and guests such as AYREON mastermind Arjen Lucassen). It’s a safe bet that diehard After Forever will be sharply divided as to whether Gommans’ journey to the Dark Side is palatable.

Vocals on System Overload are handled by Gommans, whose growls sound a lot bigger in HDK format. He shares vocal duties with Mike Scheijen (37 STABWOUNDZ), Jos Severens, Paul Niessen and Patrick Savelkoul (CALLENISH CIRCLE), while ex-ANGRA / ex-SHAMAN singer Andre Matos puts in an uncharateristically heavy guest performance on the track ‘Request’. Adding melody and somewhat civilized charisma to the album is Amanda Somerville, a one time “aspiring metal bitch” known for her work with EPICA and KAMELOT, who has effectively co-created her first full-on metal album with HDK. Along with writing the lyrics she is the featured vocalist on several tracks (such as the PRONG flavoured ‘Perfect’ and standout crusher ‘Pedestal’). She is clearly comfortable and unquestionably effective in this musically vicious environment

A word to the wise: if you’re expecting fluffy symphonics typical of the current crop of Dutch metal bands you might want to wear a pair of diapers before plugging in.”

Watch for an exclusive interview with Gommans and more album details, coming soon.
